Bringing the Love of Jesus to the Ends of the Earth
“You will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth.” — Acts 1:8
At Discover Church, we take Jesus’ words in Acts 1:8 to heart - to be His witnesses in our city, in our nation, and to the ends of the earth.
Our heart for global missions is rooted in seeing people encounter Jesus in both practical and eternal ways. Through our partnership with Compassion International, we’re helping meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of children living in poverty and sharing the hope that’s found only in Him.
“In partnership with the local church, Compassion meets each child’s right-now needs like nutrition, medical care, and encouragement and their long-term needs, like education and vocational training.
But most importantly, children are introduced to Jesus. With their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs met, they can grow healthy, strong, confident, and empowered to journey out of poverty.”
What is a Compassion Center?
Compassion Centers are church-funded, local church-run locations whose mission is to release children from poverty in Jesus' name.
Children in poverty in Colombia are often food insecure, but that worry goes away with a Compassion Center. Each Center's staff ensures children are fed and nourished.
They have toys, games, and playgrounds for children to have safe places to play. There are tutors to offer homework and school help, and many have built libraries and computer labs for children to use after school.
As the children get older, there are vocational classes that cover topics like auto repair, baking, and others to keep teenagers engaged and prepared for the future.
The bottom line is that each center provides a safe space for children to grow, learn, and develop.
